The Starfish Story

There is a man walking on the beach. In the distance he sees a boy throwing something into the ocean. As he gets closer, he sees the boy is surrounded by starfish that have washed up in the tide. The boy reaches down, picks up another starfish and throws it in the water. The man questions the boy, “Don’t you see how many there are? You will never be able to make a difference.” The boy picks up another starfish, throws it into the ocean and says, “I made a difference for that one.”

Adopt a Pet


The dogs and cats that we find are certain to be euthanized. Our volunteers spend a few hours a day driving to pick up these unwanted pets. The animals are given thorough examinations by our licensed veterinarian partners, Wheaton Animal Hospital and Banfield Pet Hospital. They are brought up-to-date on all their shots, are spayed or neutered, and are micro-chipped prior to adoption.


We go to great lengths to find homes for our rescued cats and dogs. We ask lots of questions to make sure these pets end up with the right families. Get our adoption form here.

 

Adoption Process


  1. Find an animal on our Petfinder site.
  2. Contact Starfish Animal Rescue & inquire about the pet.
  3. Wait for a response to see if the animal is available.
  4. Fill out the Adoption Application.
  5. Email application to starfishanimalrescuer@gmail.com or
    Fax to: 815.267.8867.
  6. Once received, we will schedule a phone interview.
  7. If everything is in order, a home visit and a meeting with the pet is scheduled.
  8. Finalize adoption with the Adoption Contract, Vetting Records, and Adoption Fees.


Adoption Donations


Adoption fees for Dogs & Puppies range from $225 – $350. Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccinations including:

Dog Bullet Point Deflea Treatment Dog Bullet Point Veterinary Exam

Adoption fees for Cats & Kittens are $120 Our adoption fee includes spay/neuter, all age appropriate vaccinations including:

 

Dog Bullet Point Rabies Vaccine Dog Bullet Point Microchipping
Dog Bullet Point FVRCP Dog Bullet Point FELV/FIV Testing
Dog Bullet Point Deflea Treatment Dog Bullet Point Deworming
Dog Bullet Point Veterinary Exam Dog Bullet Point Any other medical needs while in our care

 


*There may be additional costs for treatments given to the animals.*

We treat all conditions that our animals may have and that includes mange, heartworm, parvo, and can even include cardiology consults, orthopedic surgeries, dental issues, etc. Recently we had a dog test positive for heartworm – that treatment will be at least $400. Sometimes the adoption fee doesn’t cover the cost of the treatment but that is just the way it goes.


*The Adoption Fee includes a $10 transport fee & a $10 donation back into the community for spay/neuter through our affiliate Spay it Forward program.*

We believe in responsible rescue, which means that we not only rescue the pet, but we provide something back to the community as well. We hope to see our idea of responsible rescue grow amongst all of the rescues in the country.
